<![CDATA[Spokane Chapter JACL - News]]>Tue, 21 May 2013 22:49:47 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[Nikkei Appreciation Luncheon - Sunday, March 20, 1-3 p.m. at Mukogawa Ft Wright Institute]]>Thu, 03 Mar 2011 06:17:05 GMThttp://www.spokanejacl.org/1/post/2011/03/nikkei-appreciation-luncheon-sunday-march-20-1-3-pm-at-mukogawa-ft-wright-institute.htmlThis is an event to honor the Issei and Nisei, first and second generations, of our community who paved the way for future generations of Sansei and Yonsei, third and fourth generations.  We have the quality of life  today and the opportunities to pursue career choices and post-secondary education that were not options for many family members during the first 50 years of the 20th century.   The Japanese buffet is free to any Japanese person age 70-1/2 or older whether they are a JACL member or not.  Adults are $15 each, a family of 1 adult and 1 child is $20, a family of 2 adults and 1 child is $35 and each additional child is $5 each.  Make your reservations by Thursday, March 10th on-line by clicking on the "Sign-Up and App" tab and then filling out the reservation form.

<![CDATA[Hina Matsuri - Saturday, March 5th, 1-3 p.m. at Spokane Buddhist Temple]]>Thu, 03 Mar 2011 05:59:49 GMThttp://www.spokanejacl.org/1/post/2011/03/hina-matsuri-saturday-march-5th-1-3-pm-at-spokane-buddhist-temple.html This is a family friendly event.  Girls' Day is called Hina Matsuri or momo no sekku, peach flower festival, where a set of hina dolls wearing kimonos are displayed to bring girls' happiness and good health.  A traditional Japanese doll display is set up, craft activities and light finger food are provided.  Space is limited to please make your reservations on-line by selecting the "Sign-Up Sheets and App" tab and then clicking on the Hina Matsuri Reservation Form.  Members are free and non-members are $5 per person.

Main Avenue.  It will be from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.  There is no cost to attend.  It will be moderated by Heidi Park from the Win/Win Network in Seattle, and Kendee Yamaguchi , the Executive Director of the Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs. 

It will focus on how our Asian Pacific American community can become better connected to local and State agencies and how our voice can make a difference in advocacy for education, health, economic development issues that affect our lives.  Please invite your friends and business colleagues to this informative session.
